Essentials of Text Editing

Sarah Price has been a freelance copy-editor and trainer since 2002, after more than 20 years in the IT industry as a technical editor, writer and project manager, most recently specialising in course development.

Christina Thomas has been a freelance editor, proofreader and trainer for 25 years and was a tutor on the PTC’s Basic Proofreading distance learning course for ten years.

Caroline Drake was copy-editorial manager at Cambridge University Press, where she trained copy-editors and proofreaders for 15 years. She updated the fourth edition of Butcher’s Copy-editing (with a colleague). Freelance since 2005, she is a tutor for the PTC’s Copy-Editing by Distance Learning course.

Anne Waddingham trades as WordMedic (‘Making words better’) and has worked in STM publishing for over 30 years. She specialises in tutoring, on-screen editing and proofreading, and project management. She was editor-in-chief of the second edition of New Hart’s Rules (OUP, 2014), and wrote the on-screen editing chapter in the fourth edition of Butcher’s Copy-editing (CUP, 2006). Anne has a Licentiateship in Editorial Skills from the City & Guilds Institute.
