New courses

We are launching some exciting new digital, e-books and editorial courses in 2010.

The first of the new digital publishing courses is Agile Project Management. This practical course will guide students through the Agile methodology, a set of project management procedures that are particularly well suited to digital and web-based projects because they can deal well with constant and unexpected change. Workshop activities will give delegates hands-on experience of how it feels to manage a project using this approach.

For those publishers who have extensive experience in print publishing, and now need to move to a digital environment, we are launching Moving into Digital. This course will assist delegates in identifying the areas that are likely to be new to them in their planned project and adapting their current skill-set.

XML and InDesign: With XML it is possible to transfer structured data into and out of InDesign files. This can be used for exporting data from print layouts for use in digital formats, automating the production of catalogues and directories, and many more applications. This course is designed to give you both an understanding of XML, its creation and manipulation, as well as hands-on experience of working with XML in Adobe InDesign.

Developing an E-book Strategy is designed for book publishers who want to make the transition into e-book publishing. Production managers attending will learn how to incorporate e-books into the production process, sales and rights managers will gain an understanding of the different types of market for e-books and editors will find out how to make sure they have the best combination of rights, and how to maximize a book’s potential in the e-book market.

In the editorial category we are launching Better Business Writing, a course that is designed to help you write more effectively and to boost your confidence when writing at work. It will also help you achieve the versatility in your writing and an understanding of the issues involved that will allow you to perform successfully. Areas covered will include memos, reports, writing for the web, and much more.

Practical Marketing Management is particularly aimed at smaller publishers and covers all the marketing basics in a practical and easy to implement way. At the end of this intensive one-day course you will have a clear strategic overview and the tools to create your own plan.

And finally, Copywriting for Publishers is an intensive, hands-on workshop for anyone in publishing that has to write persuasive marketing copy.
