New Careers Advice Line launched
A new careers advice line, to help job seekers, those in jobs, and those curious about publishing and related areas has been launched by bookcareers.com, the professional careers consultancy for the book and publishing industry.
The line will run several days a week, and be staffed by career professionals, including the founder of bookcareers.com Suzanne Collier.
“We are always being asked questions which require more detailed answers than ‘visit this website’, ‘take this course’ ‘think about this option’ and have been asked to make ourselves more available, without the commitment of a full consultation and believe this is a great addition to our portfolio of career services”.
The type of questions that the bookcareers.com careers line can help with are:
- “I was thinking of going for Editorial training, what training courses do you recommend?”
- “I’ve started a new job today. They used a phrase in a meeting today which I don’t understand. Can you explain it to me please?”
- “Should I do an MA in publishing?”
- “I’ve got a new line manager at work. How can I impress them?”
- “I went to an interview and they asked me to do an unpaid work trial, what should I do?”
The cost of using the careers line is £1 per minute from at BT line (calls from a mobile may cost more), with the usual careers call lasting between 5-10 minutes. The maximum call length is limited to 29 minutes – all very reasonable for those wishing to access professional careers advice. The number to call is 0911 7505601. The times of operation vary from week to week – check the opening times on http://www.bookcareers.com/careerdevelopment/careersline.html
Those who would like to discuss their CV or a specific job application or have other issues are advised to book a fixed fee consultation, for £45. To find out about this and the other services provided by bookcareers.com visit http://www.bookcareers.com/careerdevelopment/careerdevelopment.htm
Bookcareers.com, which was founded in 1999, by Suzanne Collier, also offers other services including mock interviews, outplacement and redundancy counselling, career development and helping people at careers crossroads.
