Who will benefit from this course?
The course does not require extensive prior experience. It is useful to anyone wishing to improve their proofreading skills.


Your tutor
Your tutor will be Gillian Clarke or Melanie McRae. Gillian Clarke has worked as a freelance editor since 1975. A founder member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, she was its first Training Co-ordinator and was responsible for setting up its training programme. Gillian continues to teach for SfEP, and is a regular tutor for the Publishing Training Centre. She is also the author of Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning.

Melanie McRae has worked in publishing for over 12 years. Previously a Geography Editor at Maskew Miller Longman (South Africa) and Thomas Nelson and Sons (UK), she is now a freelance Editorial Consultant and runs her own limited company, EDT (Editorial, Design and Training services). She has been Project Manager, Editor and Proofreader on a number of leading educational titles and her clients have included Oxford University Press, Heinemann International, and HarperCollins.


We also offer Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning, Proofreading Promotional Material and Proofreading for Non-Publishers.


Note that most of our open courses can also be run as in company events.
