If you edit illustrated books you need a range of skills that aren't automatically part of an editor's training. These include:

 

  • writing and editing captions
  • briefing artwork and photography
  • checking page design
  • liaising with picture researchers and designers
  • dealing with permissions and credits.

 

Whether you work on international co-editions or on complex school or reference books, you'll be given expert guidance and tried and tested working methods that will make even the most complex projects easier to handle.

Your tutor
Sonia Clark has worked in a number of publishing roles for over 20 years, starting as a copy-editor and proofreader for an international educational publisher. Having worked in editorial teams for several major publishers, in 2003 Sonia became a freelance tutor, project manager, copy-editor and proofreader. She has experience of editing and publishing a variety of illustrated books, booklets, CD-ROMs and online materials across many subject areas including science, maths, ICT, business, health and social care, and English.


Note that most of our open courses can also be run as in company events.
