Adverts for Freelance Positions
Freelance Editorial Project Managers and Freelance Editorial Assistants needed
The Oxford University Press (OUP) Science and Medical Books department is seeking experienced editorial project managers and editorial assistants to join its Virtual Editorial Office. The aim is to build up a pool of freelance contacts that can be used as new projects are commissioned.
OUP will not be able to guarantee work straight away. All successful applicants will be placed onto a Freelancer database. As work arises within the department, it will be offered to contacts on the database and will usually lead to between 5 and 15 hours working from home each week, as required.
Project Manager role responsibilities may include:
- Sending out author briefing materials
- Maintaining full tracking records for all aspects of the project. Organising the review of submissions.
- Providing technical support and guidance to editors, authors, and reviewers.
- Contacting authors/reviewers regularly and working to ensure that decisions are provided to authors in a timely manner.
- Liaising with the Editorial team at OUP to ensure that the project is progressing to schedule.
- Producing regular reports on the progress of the project, and alerting the Editors/OUP team (as appropriate) of any problems or opportunities.
- Maintaining an artwork log for the book and ensuring that all elements that are reproduced from another source have the required permissions for republication.
Editorial Assistant role responsibilities may include:
- Assessing existing manuscripts for permission information.
- Applying for third party permissions and following up as appropriate.
- Completing figure logs for books (as provided by OUP).
- Testing new systems for the department.
Hours can be worked on a flexible basis. The freelance fee offered will be discussed at the start of each piece of freelancer work.
To register, please e-mail your CV and a covering letter to Tracey Mills, Development Editor at tracey.mills@oup.com. Please state clearly in your covering letter which type of work you are most interested in being considered for.
