Sonia Clark
Sonia Clark started her career as a secondary and tertiary science teacher and she also worked as an examiner. She later trained as a freelance copy-editor and proofreader. She became an editor for Macmillan International in the late 80s. During the 90s she worked for Thomas Nelson as a senior editor, then publisher, for science and vocational educational publishing lists. She later worked as the International Publisher for Heinemann, publishing across all subjects and levels for Africa and the Caribbean. She then went to Folens to develop their secondary science and vocational lists before becoming freelance again.
Sonia now works as a freelance editorial project manager, trainer on a number of editorial courses, and researcher for educational projects. Sonia works for a number of major publishing houses. She works in UK and international publishing at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, including materials for second language English speakers. She has wide experience in training and running workshops.
Sonia works on multimedia projects and individual components including books, CDs and interactive electronic web materials, such as animations. She works closely with other members of a team. Her roles include commissioning authors and reviewers and briefing them, working on schedules, liaising with designers, overseeing in-house and freelance editors and proofreaders.
Sonia works for The Publishing Training Centre as a tutor on a range of editorial courses. These include short courses at Book House and in-company courses, some of which are tailored to the specific requirements of a company.
