Advanced Copy-Editing
This course is designed for editors who have some experience and who wish to extend their skills and knowledge. It tackles a range of complex material that presents challenges in comprehension, structure and consistency. The course is exercise-based so that you learn through practice as well as discussion.
One exercise involves looking at the proofs of the material to see how the resolution of copy-editing difficulties has worked in practice and another involves discussing the requirements of the job for a textbook that is being prepared for a second edition.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you should be able to:
- demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues that arise when working on multi-author reference works
- identify the existing skills and knowledge that you can use to tackle complex texts with confidence
- rewrite texts to avoid problems.
