Financial Management for Independent Publishers

Most publishers are driven by a passion for publishing that can sometimes overshadow the importance of a secure commercial foundation for their business. Strengthening your knowledge of how publishing finance works may improve that business and could mean that scarce resources are used wisely through the application of simple controls and a basic awareness of the priorities.

Budgeting and forecasting need careful attention and a keen eye, both to understand the history of what’s gone before and anticipating the needs of the future. Reading profit and loss accounts and other financial data could help you to spot problems before they become serious, and provide a key skill in managing your business successfully.

Cash and cash flow, and reducing overhead costs, have never been more important, as has finding new sources of revenue from rights exploitation. Today the need to share the development of digital projects requires an enhanced financial awareness, especially when costs and margins may need to be shared with new and unfamiliar partners.

The course runs from 9.30 to 5.00 and delegate numbers are limited to a maximum of 16, to guarantee a high level of personal tuition and assistance.

Delegates are encouraged to email questions in advance, and to follow up with queries.
