Proofreading for Editors

Become a more accurate proofreader in just one day. Whether you are a beginner or just a little rusty, you will benefit from Proofreading for Editors. As you work through a series of exercises, your experienced tutor will help you to improve your skills and increase your confidence. You will gain valuable practical experience, including judging when to leave well-enough alone, as well as guidance on commonly used terms.

This course is geared towards conventional book and journal publishers and uses the 2005 BSI symbols. If you are interested in a course that will improve your ability to proofread annual reports, brochures, manuals, etc, you should attend our Proofreading for Business course.

Your Tutors

Gillian Clarke has been a freelance proofreader and editor since 1975. A founder member and honorary member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), she was also responsible for setting up its training programme. Gillian is the senior author of the PTC's popular Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning.

Melanie McRae works as a freelance editorial consultant in publishing. She has experience in working on both printed matter and electronic information. She works closely with in-company editorial teams, briefing writers, designers and researchers, and other freelance editors and proofreaders. Melanie is also a qualified secondary school teacher and has experience in marketing. She has worked successfully with both English speakers and delegates who do not use English as a first language. She is an experienced writer and trainer and develops, writes and delivers training packages to a number of UK and international clients. Melanie runs her own limited company, EDT (Editorial, Design and Training services, Ltd).
